Chief physician

The chief physician works as a senior ward physician on all weekdays, and at all other times the staff can reach the physician on stand-by by phone.

The hospice physician meets and examines all patients arriving at the ward, and plans the patient’s future care with the patient and relatives, if need be. The physician prescribes the patient’s medication during ward care and takes care of other necessary action to ensure the patient’s well-being. The physician together with the primary nurse follows the patient’s condition and symptoms, pays regular visits, listens, has discussions with the relatives, and makes necessary changes in the patient’s medication.

Various action can be taken at the ward to alleviate the patient’s symptoms. The hospice physician usually also takes part in the patient’s care meeting. The physician is always available should the patients or their relatives have any questions concerning the patient’s treatment or condition. The chief physician at the hospice is currently Tarja Korhonen.
